I recently received a long email from a PTSD survivor who created a program to help civilians with PTSD or other traumas.
It turns out she went through what I went through, did what I did and came up with the exact same conclusions in pointing out the exact same point of failures I observed when working with veterans.
Before I say anything else I have to mention that there are great Therapists allover the world that are doing a great job helping people achieve their full potential. This post is not against therapy but the limits I’m pointing out are worth acknowledging.
Now here are the 3 reasons why therapies fail
1: THEORY VS. EXPERIENCE
Many therapists learn theory and never experience the traumas their patients have experienced. Not only that, many therapists actually believe that PTSD is impossible to recover or heal from. Which is simply not true, I personally worked with many veterans who got their PTSD under control in no time and I was able to end my own PTSD and turned it into an empowering memory.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
I believe that not only we can completely heal from PTSD, but we can also thrive from it overtime. If your therapist told you that you couldn’t heal from PTSD or achieve your full potential please join FaithSMagnet Mental TAP program today and we will help you discover what you can achieve during your lifetime.
2: WITH SELF KNOWLEDGE, YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO INDEPENDENTLY HEAL
Prominent Psychologist Sigmund Freud said that people could be cured by making conscious their unconscious thoughts and motivations.Just by understanding our unconscious self (who is 30,000 times more powerful than our conscious self), we can heal ourselves and access our full potential in no time. The problem is the fact that during therapy, the patients see themselves as powerless when in fact they hold the most power in the situation.
Also, counseling is reoccurring, it takes a lot of time and cost a lot of money so you may get fewer sessions to save money but when you identify what you truly need from the inside, you can train yourself the needed psychological skills and become more confident.
3: THERAPY IS JUST A MEETING
A therapist will help you bring the unconscious out but for the actual healing to take place, we need to do the work on our own and in our own head by ourselves, the therapist is just a helper or a guide not the solution. We need to take matters in our own hands, get the training we need and become self reliant to face life event and life challenges with more confidence and certainty.
